ShodhSamajik: Journal of Social Studies

ShodhSamajik: Journal of Social Studies is a half-yearly, open-access, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to deepening understanding of how people, societies, institutions and environments interact. Publishing in Hindi and English, the journal aims to foster critical, evidence-based social inquiry that strengthens informed decision-making, civic engagement and social responsibility at local, national and global levels.

ShodhSamajik provides a platform for researchers, teachers, students, practitioners and policymakers to share original work that engages rigorously with contemporary and historical issues—ranging from democracy, development and public policy to culture, identity, gender, technology and social change. All submissions undergo initial editorial screening followed by a rigorous double-blind peer-review process.

The journal welcomes high-quality contributions that advance knowledge in social studies and allied social sciences, including but not limited to:

• History and Political History Historical processes, social and intellectual movements, colonial and postcolonial transitions, elections and party politics, political ideologies and state formation.
• Political Science, Governance and Public Policy Democratic institutions, electoral systems, corruption and institutions, public policy analysis, international relations, constitutional debates, law, rights and justice.
• Sociology, Social Work and Social Philosophy Family and kinship, social stratification, caste, gender, disability, social inclusion/exclusion, social movements, community organisation and changing social norms.
• Economics and Development Studies Traditional and contemporary economic practices, livelihoods, labour and employment, real estate and financial practices, self-help groups, digitalisation and economic change.
• Human Geography and Environment Population and settlement studies, spatial disparities (e.g., child labour geographies), regional development, sustainable sanitation, and human–environment interactions.
• Education and Social Studies Pedagogy Social studies education, civic and citizenship education, critical thinking and reading, values education, and institutional practices such as green campus and audit initiatives.
• Culture, Identity, Religion and Philosophy Cultural practices and identities, religion and society, philosophical traditions, memory and heritage (e.g., temple movements, civilisational studies, tribal cultures and identities).
• Technology, Media and Society Social impacts of technology and AI, algorithmic policing, legal–ethical implications of emerging technologies, and their consequences for inequality, rights and democracy.

ShodhSamajik publishes full-length research articles, theoretical and critical essays, field-based and developmental practice papers, and book reviews that clearly relate to social studies and its core disciplines—History, Geography, Civics/Political Science, Economics and Sociology.

ShodhSamajik: Journal of Social Studies एक अर्धवार्षिक, मुक्त अभिगम (ओपन एक्सेस), समकक्ष-समीक्षित शोध पत्रिका है, जिसका उद्देश्य इस बात की गहन समझ विकसित करना है कि व्यक्ति, समाज, संस्थाएँ और पर्यावरण आपस में किस प्रकार अन्तःक्रिया करते हैं। हिन्दी और अंग्रेजी दोनों भाषाओं में प्रकाशन करने वाली यह पत्रिका आलोचनात्मक, साक्ष्य-आधारित सामाजिक शोध को प्रोत्साहित करती है, जो स्थानीय, राष्ट्रीय और वैश्विक स्तर पर निर्णय-निर्माण, नागरिक भागीदारी और सामाजिक उत्तरदायित्व को सशक्त बनाती है।

ShodhSamajik शोधकर्ताओं, शिक्षकों, विद्यार्थियों, प्रैक्टिशनरों तथा नीतिनिर्माताओं के लिए एक मंच प्रदान करता है, जहाँ वे अपने ऐसे मौलिक कार्य साझा कर सकते हैं जो समकालीन और ऐतिहासिक मुद्दों—जैसे लोकतंत्र, विकास और लोक नीति से लेकर संस्कृति, पहचान, लैंगिकता, प्रौद्योगिकी और सामाजिक परिवर्तन—के साथ कठोरता से संलग्न होते हैं। सभी प्राप्त लेख पहले प्रारंभिक संपादकीय छंटनी से गुजरते हैं, जिसके बाद उनकी कड़ी दोहरे-अंध (डबल-ब्लाइंड) समकक्ष-समीक्षा की जाती है।

पत्रिका सामाजिक अध्ययन और संबद्ध सामाजिक विज्ञानों में ज्ञान को आगे बढ़ाने वाले उच्च-स्तरीय शोध योगदानों का स्वागत करती है, जिनमें निम्नलिखित क्षेत्रों तक सीमित न रहते हुए उन्हें भी शामिल किया जाता है:

• इतिहास और राजनीतिक इतिहास ऐतिहासिक प्रक्रियाएँ, सामाजिक एवं बौद्धिक आन्दोलन, औपनिवेशिक और उत्तर-औपनिवेशिक संक्रमण, चुनाव और दलीय राजनीति, राजनीतिक विचारधाराएँ और राज्य-निर्माण।
• राजनीति विज्ञान, शासन और लोक नीति लोकतांत्रिक संस्थाएँ, निर्वाचन प्रणालियाँ, भ्रष्टाचार और संस्थान, लोक नीति विश्लेषण, अंतरराष्ट्रीय सम्बन्ध, संवैधानिक बहसें, विधि, अधिकार और न्याय।
• समाजशास्त्र, सामाजिक कार्य और सामाजिक दर्शन परिवार और कुटुम्ब, सामाजिक स्तरीकरण, जाति, लैंगिकता, दिव्यांगता, सामाजिक समावेशन/बहिष्करण, सामाजिक आन्दोलन, समुदाय संगठन और बदलते सामाजिक मानदण्ड।
• अर्थशास्त्र और विकास अध्ययन परम्परागत और समकालीन आर्थिक व्यवहार, आजीविका, श्रम और रोजगार, अचल संपत्ति तथा वित्तीय व्यवहार, स्वयं-सहायता समूह, डिजिटलीकरण और आर्थिक परिवर्तन।
• मानव भूगोल और पर्यावरण जनसंख्या और बसावट अध्ययन, स्थानिक असमानताएँ (जैसे बाल-श्रम की भौगोलिक स्थितियाँ), क्षेत्रीय विकास, सतत स्वच्छता, तथा मानव–पर्यावरण अन्तःक्रियाएँ।
• शिक्षा और सामाजिक अध्ययन शिक्षाशास्त्र सामाजिक अध्ययन शिक्षा, नागरिक एवं नागरिकता शिक्षा, समालोचनात्मक चिंतन और पठन, मूल्य शिक्षा, तथा हरित परिसर और ऑडिट पहल जैसी संस्थागत प्रक्रियाएँ।
• संस्कृति, पहचान, धर्म और दर्शन सांस्कृतिक व्यवहार और पहचाने, धर्म और समाज, दार्शनिक परम्पराएँ, स्मृति और विरासत (जैसे मंदिर आन्दोलन, सभ्यतागत अध्ययन, जनजातीय संस्कृतियाँ और पहचाने)।
• प्रौद्योगिकी, मीडिया और समाज प्रौद्योगिकी और कृत्रिम बुद्धिमत्ता (AI) के सामाजिक प्रभाव, एल्गोरिद्मिक पुलिसिंग, उभरती प्रौद्योगिकियों के विधिक–नैतिक निहितार्थ, और असमानता, अधिकार तथा लोकतंत्र पर उनके परिणाम।

ShodhSamajik सामाजिक अध्ययन और उसकी मुख्य विधाओं—इतिहास, भूगोल, नागरिकशास्त्र/राजनीति विज्ञान, अर्थशास्त्र और समाजशास्त्र—से स्पष्ट रूप से सम्बद्ध पूर्ण-लम्बाई शोध लेख, सैद्धान्तिक और समालोचनात्मक निबन्ध, क्षेत्राधारित और विकासात्मक व्यवहार सम्बन्धी आलेख, तथा पुस्तक समीक्षाएँ प्रकाशित करता है।
