Tribal societies point towards those early stages of human history where culture possessed the distinct characteristic of being unique to each specific human group—a culture that has since evolved to reach its current state of development. The present article attempts to classify the various tribes of India based on geographical, economic, racial, and linguistic parameters. Furthermore, it examines how their culture has undergone transformation in the modern era following contact with outsiders.
